Group Classes

Group Piano Classes

Children enjoy playing and learning with friends,

so why should piano be any different?

Class Schedule

50-minute, weekly group classes are offered Mondays through Thursdays, to students beginning at age 4. Students in classes are grouped together by ages 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, and 8-14 years.

A minimum of three students are needed to begin a class and a maximum of six students are allowed per class. Because the studio has six pianos, all students have their own keyboard to play.

Methods

Students ages 4-8 years use the Piano Explorers method. Students 8-14 use the Piano Pyramid method.

Classroom Activities

Classes consist of ensemble and solo playing. Music theory is reinforced through theory games, apps, and away-from-the-piano or “off bench” activities. (See gallery here).

Books/Materials

A materials fee covers all music and materials for the year. Materials include the Piano Pyramid sheet music, music software, awards, certificates, incentives, use of iPad, music games, gift cards, recital t-shirt, and the Practice Space account. A binder will be given to each student, which covers all music for the year. Students should use a bag to carry their binder and other materials to and from classes.

Practice

Students are required to practice at home weekly and to use the Practice Space app. Assignments and practice goals will be listed in each student’s Practice Space account. Parents must accept their responsibility in seeing that the student checks their Practice Space account for assignments and completes the required practicing. Consistent practicing is required for students to keep up with the class.

What Students Learn

Students will learn all of the same fundamentals that they learn in private piano lessons. They will learn how to sit correctly at the piano, how to play with correct hand position, how to interpret music, how to count rhythm, how to read music, how to play by ear and compose basic tunes, and the fundamentals of music theory.
